STRATEGIC GAMING

Disruptions are shaping our current economic environment

For the last years, disruptive and unforeseeable developments have been occurring, which have a massive impact on the environment of industries and markets:

  • For over ten years now, we have been accompanied by fundamental upheavals, resulting from the digitisation of our economy and society.
  • Three years ago, climate change and its implication came to the attention of the general public. Resulting in far-reaching changes in the economic framework, with the aim of transforming towards a CO2-free economy.
  • Two years ago, the CoVid pandemic has led to governmental interventions into the economy and life in general, which previously would not have been deemed possible. With the economy still suffering from the effects on global supply chains.

Finally, in 2022, the economic environment changed dramatically again, due to the Russian attack on Ukraine and the subsequent embargoes.

HORUS has developed a revolutionary approach to complement the traditional strategy process

In order to remain able to act, instead of only reacting, in an environment characterised by many unforeseen developments, HORUS has created a supplement to the conventional strategy development process with STRATEGIC GAMING. The system consists of 4 main features:

  • The generally static strategy process is supplemented by a “digital twin” with which possible strategy options can be simulated quickly and easily under varying environmental conditions.
  • Multiple dynamic scenarios can be analysed instead of only one or two static scenarios.
  • Instead of linear extrapolations of current parameters, disruptive non-linear developments can also be simulated.
  • The usual ceteris paribus assumptions used when defining a strategy, which, for example, usually assume that the competitors will not react to new strategies, can be set aside. In a multi-player environment, it is possible to test, how the other market participants will react or act independently, in order to pursue their own targets. This creates a much more realistic picture than it would be possible with static methods, thereby being better able to assess one’s own strategic options.

Finally, in 2022, the economic environment changed dramatically again, due to the Russian attack on Ukraine and the subsequent embargoes.

The system can be used in three expansion levels

  • The first stage includes a bespoke System Dynamics model of the specific market in question. This enables the analysis of non-linear and disruptive market developments, based upon various market influencing factors.
  • In the second expansion stage, the model will be supplemented with multiplayer options, so that realistic business wargaming with several parties is possible, taking over the roles of competitors and customer groups.
  • In the third stage, the opportunity is opened up to play against the system and to test strategies. The system uses fuzzy logic algorithms to simulate internal decision making processes. Thereby showing the probability of success of certain strategic options.
